Media Madness
Our local paper did an article on Ben today. I was a little anxious about the story before the interview, but it was really well done. Many thanks to Laurel and Erin for doing such a wonderful thing for Ben.
And a local TV station will be attending our "Unbirthday Party" at Chuck E. Cheese's for Ben's classmates this evening. We'll have our Tivo set to record it and I'll work on getting a copy online for you out-of-state folks.
Update:
The video is now online here.
I am glad to see that you are putting that blanket to good use! I hope Maddie is enjoying her's too. We love you all and are thinking about you and praying for your family.

I just spent the everning with my good friend Steve who has ALS (Lou Gehring's Disease). We talked alot about Ben and the whole family. The struggle with a terminal illness, and the sense of helplessness that can occur. Yet, he has just passed his 5 year anniversary since being diagnosed where there is a 80% mortality rate in the first three years. He says it is because of his family, friends and overwhelming support which keeps him moving and thriving.
I know Ben has the same support and I know this will help him with his fight. Please know that Ben is now part of the prayers of Steve's ALS networks of friends which is over 3000 strong. You all are in our prayers and thoughts always.

undergoing the trial stage. This therapy has to do with a genetically modified virus that requires a growth factor found only in tumors of the Glial cells for it's reproductive success. The virus is inserted directly into the tumor where it reproduces madly, devouring the tumor. It then self destructs when it runs out of tumor cells that have the critical growth factor. My mom was too old but it sounds like this young boy might be just right for this trial. The article I mentioned described a young man in his twenty's that had recurrent tumors which were treated successfully and has been cancer free for several years now. If you are unable to locate the reference you would be welcome to
contact me and I will dig through my old pointers and find the reference to the article. Perhaps he would qualify for the trial.

The issue of New Scientist in which the article was published is the November 19-25 2005. The name of the article is My Enemy's Enemy Written by Jo Whelan
